American Science Policy Report on Liquid Helium for Research

January 3, 2017 (HP120).  Three scientific societies, the American Physical Society (APS), the Material Research Society (MRS) and the American Chemical Society (APS) issued jointly a science policy report “The U.S. Research Community’s Liquid Helium Crisis: An Action Plan to Preserve U.S. Innovation”.   It addresses the specific US situation but contains information of interest to the worldwide research community.  It also formulates policy recommendations aiming at preserving the supply of liquid helium for research at an acceptable price, increasing economically viable He gas capture at the supply side and at promoting helium recovery or recycling, including a related decision-making methodology for scientists.
