The First IEEE CSC Chapter is Established in Italy

January 28, 2015 (HE98).  On November 28th, 2014, the "IEEE Italy Section Council on Superconductivity Chapter" has been formed after receiving the formal IEEE approval.  This is the first established Chapter of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity (CSC).  Throughout Italy, twenty petitioners from very diverse backgrounds (Electronics, Large-Scale, Materials, in the CSC categories) asked for the formation of the Chapter. The promoter and temporary Chapter Chair is Prof. Enrico Silva, from Università Roma Tre.

According to IEEE's core mission, "to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity", the Chapter aims at fostering the activities on applied superconductivity and engineering issues in superconducting systems and devices in Italy. Cooperation and collaboration with the entire community working on Superconductivity is the working principle of the Chapter, aiming towards a strongly interconnected community in Applied Superconductivity.

Emphasis of the activity of the new Chapter will be on establishing and reinforcing links between the communities of engineers, physicists and scientists in general.  Strengthening existing connections between Academia and Industry and establishing new ones is one of the main concerns of the Chapter.

The Chapter will also strive to support educational and scientific events. It is thus planning to organize and co-organize public lectures and workshops on topics of interest to the Italian community.

To strengthen the links between the diverse communities, all interested Italy-based engineers, scientists, managers involved in Superconductivity are warmly invited to join CSC, and so the Chapter, to bring their diverse contributions and share their expertise.
