17th Issue of “European Superconductivity News Forum” (ESNF)

17th Issue of “European Superconductivity News Forum” (ESNF)

On July 29th, we published Issue 17th (July 2011) of ESNF.  It is now available online at:  and (click on “News Forum”).  All earlier issues are accessible under the same web addresses.

Our Issue 17 includes manuscripts of the two invited papers presented at the CEC-ICMC Conference in Spokane, WA, USA (June 13 to 17, 2011) which we received early and are sufficiently related to superconductivity or its application.  One of these is a plenary centennial paper by Martin Wilson, the other, by Juan Knaster et al., is related to the ITER magnet system.  Furthermore, the Science & Technology News Section contains all five extended abstracts (in reality short papers) presented at the International Microwave Symposium 2011 special session on “100 Years of Superconductivity – Existing and Emerging RF Applications of Superconductivity” held in Baltimore, MD, USA (June 5 to 9, 2011).  These short papers provide a good overview of microwave applications of superconductivity at the cutting edge of science and technology.

In the Regional News and History Section we publish a lecture presentation by Peter Kes given at the Centennial Symposium in Leiden, The Netherlands, on April 8th, 2011, the official anniversary date.  The title is “The Notebooks of Kamerlingh Onnes and the Discovery of Superconductivity”.

We attract your attention to our superconductivity centennial feature prominently displayed on our home page.  It is a rather comprehensive guide to centennial events around the word.  This guide is being continuously updated by additional and new information becoming available.

We continuously solicit contributions to upcoming issues.  The deadline for submission to the next Issue No. 18 is September 15th, 2011.  We encourage and appreciate earlier submissions.

In closing, we thank you for forwarding this announcement to others, who might be interested, including other members of your group or organization.
