New European Accelerator Project EUCARD

April 2, 2009 (HE30).  Yesterday started the new European Accelerator Project EUCARD (European Coordination for Accelerator Research and Development), partly supported by European Commission (EC) within the FP7 (Seventh Framework) Program on Infrastructures. The program includes five Joint Research Activities (JRAs), two networks and two work packages to provide transnational access to research facilities.

EuCARD will have duration of 4 years. One of the JRAs is the work package on high-field magnets; ESNF expects to publish an article on this work package in our Issue 8 (April 2009).   Within this package, a 15 T large-aperture high-field dipole model, a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) very-high-field dipole insert, a HTS current link and a superconducting helical undulator will be designed and build.  Thirteen European institutions will participate in this package.  In parallel, more general worldwide high field magnet collaboration is being set up.
