Prof. Dr. Thomas Ortlepp received the master degree in mathematics and the PhD degree in electrical engineering from Ilmenau University of Technology, Ilmenau, Germany, in 1999 and 2004, respectively. From 2004 to 2010, he was a Lecturer in electromagnetics, relativistic electrodynamics, and superconductive electronics with Ilmenau University of Technology. In January 2011, he moved to the group of Prof. V. Duzer at the University of California, Berkeley to develop hybrid cryogenic ultrahigh-performance cache memories for high-performance computing. Since 2013, he has been with the CiS Research Institute for Microsensor Systems GmbH, Erfurt, Germany. In 2015, he became the Managing director of the Institute as well as Distinguished Professor at Yokohama National University in Japan. Together with Prof. Yoshikawa, he leads a research team of energy-efficient microprocessors.
