Copyright and Permission

Articles published in the News Forum have the status of electronic preprints. Authors, who wish to submit to the News Forum an article eventually intended for or already submitted to a regular refereed journal, should find out what is this journal’s policy on posting electronic preprints? Most journals explicitly permit this, but require clear referencing of the preprint to the article submitted to or published in the journal, and an acknowledgement of its Copyright. Journals of the American Physical Society, the American Institute of Physics (such as Appl.Phys. Lett.), Physica C, Supercond. Sci. Technol (SuST), and many others adhere to this policy. As an example, we cite the statement by Physical Review B:

The author has the right to post and update the article on a free-access e-print server using files prepared and formatted by the author. Any such posting made or updated after acceptance of the article for publication by APS shall include a link to the online abstract in the APS journal or to the entry page of the journal. In all cases, the appropriate bibliographic citation and notice of the APS copyright must be included.

Prospective Forum authors, who submitted (or plan to submit) their work to IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity (or any other IEEE Transactions) should conform fully to the IEEE Copyright regulation specified in https://www.ieee.org/publications/rights/copyright-policy.html. Please click on Policy on Electronic Dissemination.

It is the author’s obligation to make sure that by submitting to the News Forum he does not infringe on the policy of the refereed journal, to which the same material has been or will be submitted.

It is also this author’s obligation to inform the News Forum on that submission and any change of status of his article in that journal, i.e., when accepted or published there. Once published, the full reference and the link to that article’s online abstract should be provided to us. We will promptly add this information to the version published in the News Forum.
