Marco Colangelo is a graduate student at MIT under the supervision of Prof. Karl K. Berggren in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. Marco received the B.Sc. in Physics Engineering from Politecnico di Torino (IT) in 2015, the joint M.Sc. in Nanotechnologies for Information and Communication Technology from Politecnico di Torino (IT) and the Grenoble Institute of Technology (FR) in 2017, and the M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (IT) in 2018. Marco joined MIT in 2018 to pursue his graduate studies. In 2018 He was awarded the Jacobs Presidential Fellowship.

Marco’s research has been focused on developing devices based on superconducting nanowires. His research was first devoted to improving superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors for applications in classical and quantum communication. He is currently focused on studying the microwave properties of superconducting nanowires and how these can be harnessed to develop ultra-compact electronic devices. The development of a cryogenic microwave electronic platform based on superconducting nanowire might provide a path for scaling up superconducting quantum technology. In his free time, Marco enjoys hiking and rock climbing.
